Doug Straley is the proud superintendent of Louisa County Public Schools. A lifelong native of Louisa County, Mr. Straley has served in a multitude of roles in his 25 years at LCPS, including tenures as a teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent. Mr. Straley is now in his fifth year as superintendent for LCPS.

During his time as superintendent, Mr. Straley has created a concept called #TeamLCPS, where all students, staff, and community members play an integral role in the school division's success. In recent years, Louisa County Public Schools has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Education for its overall innovation and implementation of The 5 C’s. In 2018, Mr. Straley received the “Most Spirited Superintendent Award” by the nationally recognized company Varsity Brands. 

Mr. Straley lives in Louisa with his wife, Kate, who teaches at Louisa County Middle School. He has six children, all of whom have attended — or are currently attending — Louisa County Public Schools.

Since becoming Superintendent:

- Added a pilot World Languages Program (Spanish) at Moss-Nuckols Elementary School

- Implemented a 1:1 device initiative, where every student has access to a technological learning device, such as an iPad or Chromebook.

- Added STEAM Labs at all four LCPS elementary schools.

- Significantly boosted LCPS CTE programs, which is now one of just 5 pilot schools selected (and still participating) in the Virginia Department of Labor’s Registered Apprenticeship Program.

- Led initiative to create The Little Lions Learning Lab, an on-campus learning center where student-teachers provide instruction for preschool age children of LCPS staff members.

- Created a Safe Schools Task Force in 2018, which has led to School Resource Officers being placed in all 6 schools at LCPS

- Instituted #Kindness Days, where students go out into the community and perform acts of kindness on regularly scheduled days. 

- Instituted #TeamLCPS MVP Awards, a weekly awards system where a member of the community, a classified staff member, a certified staff member, and a student are honored. Anyone can submit a nomination.
