2nd Annual Non-Profit Summit

Staff and volunteer leaders for any nonprofit organization/agency throughout the Central Virginia area are invited to attend.  Please help us spread the word to all organizations across Central Virginia (Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Goochland, Louisa, Hanover, Henrico, Orange, Spotsylvania) 

We will offer in-person attendance (maximum is 50) and ZOOM participation.  Due to the limited seating, we ask that no more than 2 from each organization attend in-person. There is no limit to ZOOM participation.

Shenandoah Crossing and the Chamber will follow compliance with all phase three guideline outlined by the Governor for the State of Virginia (see image below).  Please wear a mask.  Please practice social distancing.

Registration fee applies for both in-person and zoom attendance: $20 ($15 LCCC Members)

A box lunch will be provided thanks to the support of Betterworld.

Schedule for the Day:

* One-hour is allocated for each segment that includes special guest presentation, Q&A and extra time for technology or breaks. 

8:30 am - 9:00 am  Welcome

9:00 am: Volunteer Management: Raquel Suarez (CNE) & Winter Broadhurst (JABA)

Raquel joined CNE in 2020 as the Senior Membership Manager, connecting nonprofits in the community with the programs and resources that will help them build on their mission. Prior to joining CNE, Raquel served as the Program Specialist for the Close Up Foundation where she developed relationships with school leaders nationwide to create engaging youth programs centered on civic leadership and advocacy. She has also worked as the Program Director for the Center for the Constitution at James Madison’s Montpelier. Raquel holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Virginia and an MPA from James Madison University. In her free time, Raquel enjoys running, bicycling, reading, and walks with her dog, Meeko. 

    Winter Broadhurst, Volunteer Services Coordinator, JABA 

Winter Broadhurst is the Volunteer Services Coordinator at The Jefferson Area Board for Aging since summer of 2019 and has a background in communications, marketing, and adult education. She has been working throughout the last year on marketing, innovative volunteer practices and organization, and pivoting to a virtual-focused Volunteer Program in the midst of COVID-19.

10:00 am: Grant Writing & Research:  Susie Miller (Skill Set Partners)

Susie is the Director of Development and Public Relations for Valley Mission.  She joined them as a contract grant writer in 2009 and officially joined the staff a year ago.  Susie has 15 years of fundraising experience and has worked in the fields of higher education, community non-profits, and private secondary schools.  Susie also conducts national grant writing workshops and has her own company, Skill Set Partners, LLC.  Susie attended Mary Baldwin and a Masters in Higher Education Administration with a concentration in Institutional Advancement.

11:00 am: Fundraising Panel: Amy Hager (Amy Hager Solutions), Moderator

Amy Hager has 15 years of background in marketing, communications, engagement, community development, and organizational growth. Hager’s inspiration and foundation for starting her own company is built from her in-depth experiences in the broadcasting, publishing, non-profit, technology, and consulting industries. Hager, a holder of the Institute for Organizational Management (IOM) designation and a Certified Association Executive (CAE) from the American Society of Association Executives, works with volunteer and member-driven organizations to advocate, engage, and build alliances to effectively represent a greater industry at the state and national allows for each participant to build on their strengths and gain new experiences. As a presenter and facilitator, Hager engages audiences to motivate and leave with new and achievable ideas to improve their business, organizations, and communities.

12:00 pm: New Technologies & Platforms:  Whit Hunter (betterworld)

Whit has been working in start-ups from Shanghai to Palo Alto since he was eighteen. At the University of Virginia, he wrote his thesis on imagining new ways for for-profit businesses to do good. He founded BetterWorld nearly a decade ago and lives in his hometown of Charlottesville, Va.
