$1m Grant Awarded to FLHF for Seniors

The Fluvanna-Louisa Housing Foundation (FLHF) is pleased to announce a $1 million grant award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for their Older Adult Home Modification Program (OAHMP).

The award will serve income-eligible residents in Louisa, Fluvanna, and Nelson counties who are 62 or older, enabling them to age in place by funding a variety of home modifications, from low-cost items like grab bars to high-cost items like handicap accessible shower modifications.  The program is designed to help older adults continue to live in their homes by reducing fall risks, improving safety, and enhancing accessibility.

Each year, FLHF distributes Home Preservation Grant funds to low-income local homeowners.  These funds have been completely expended less than 5 months into the government’s fiscal year.  The OAHMP funds will allow us to provide services to a broader number of residents that would include a higher income threshold, but are limited to residents 62 and older.

FLHF will share additional information as it becomes available, including the application process for qualifying residents.  FLHF staff will attend mandatory HUD training for OAHMP in April 2025.  Start up for the grant is expected to begin shortly thereafter and will last 3 years, or until all funds are expended.

FLHF would like to thank Louisa residents Jo Griffith and Judy Belluomini for writing the grant that secured this critical funding.  Griffith and Belluomini have secured several grants for FLHF, including a $300,000 award from the Virginia Department of Health for septic and well assistance.

The Fluvanna-Louisa Housing Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping residents of both Fluvanna and Louisa Counties for over 30 years. Through our work, income eligible citizens can afford their homes more easily and remain in them longer, improve their living conditions, and live safely in the community.

FLHF donations are 100% allocated to programming for local residents.  If you’re interested in directly assisting neighbors through an established nonprofit with a demonstrated record, please consider a gift through the FLHF website: FluvannaLouisaHousing.org or donate in person at the FLHF offices located on 144 Resource Lane, Louisa VA, next to the Louisa County Resource Council.

The Foundation offers a range of services to residents of both counties including:

  • Essential Home Repairs
