CVEC Joins the Nation in Recognizing the Unsung Heroes Who Keep the Lights On
[Arrington, VA] – On April 18, Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC) proudly joins communities across the nation in recognizing Lineman Appreciation Day, a time to honor the hardworking men and women who keep the lights on and the power flowing—no matter the weather, time of day, or challenges in the field.
These individuals are the unsung heroes of the electric utility industry, often working in dangerous conditions to maintain and restore essential infrastructure. From climbing poles and handling high-voltage lines to responding to natural disasters, they are essential in keeping the lights on, our homes comfortable, and our communities connected.
CVEC has just over 120 employees, many who work in the field restoring power during outages and maintaining distribution lines and equipment. “CVEC’s crews are dedicated to answering the call and are proud to serve our members and our local communities,” says Melissa Gay, CVEC Vice President of Communications and Member Services. “We commend these men and women for their hard work, commitment, and sacrifices. They often work in difficult conditions and miss time with their families to keep the lights on, our communities safe, and power flowing to our homes and businesses. They deserve recognition not just today, but every day.”
Lineman Appreciation Day was established by Congress in 2013 after Hurricane Sandy highlighted the vital role that these men and women play in restoring power and protecting public safety. It is also an opportunity for the public to say thank you and recognize the sacrifice and service of these critical workers. Whether it’s through a social media shoutout, a note of thanks, or simply flipping on a light switch and remembering the people behind the power—it all matters.
Join us in honoring these unsung heroes on April 18, 2025.
