Firefly Fiber BroadbandSM celebrates 30,000 fiber broadband connections; offers freedom to connect across central Virginia
June 28, 2024
Charlottesville, Virginia — Firefly Fiber BroadbandSM, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC), is thrilled to announce their significant milestone of reaching 30,000 fiber broadband connections across central Virginia. To commemorate this achievement, Firefly hosted a Broadband Independence Bash this week at scenic Carter Mountain Orchard in Albemarle County.
The alignment of the Fourth of July holiday and the 30,000 milestone presented the perfect opportunity to celebrate the freedoms that fiber broadband brings: a fast, reliable and affordable connection for business, education, telehealth and work from home opportunities. The celebration was a vibrant affair, featuring hayrides, live music by the Tara Mills Band, exciting giveaways, and a delectable BBQ lunch provided by our skilled fiber build partner, S&N Communications. This event highlights Firefly's commitment to delivering high-speed internet to unserved communities in central Virginia and fostering a sense of community among its users and partners.
Attendees included valued project partners, members of the board, county, state and federal officials, and select Firefly residential and business customers, all of whom have played crucial roles in reaching this milestone.
"We are incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone with the community," said Gary Wood, Firefly’s President & CEO. "Reaching 30,000 connections is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, as well as the unwavering support from our partners and customers. We look forward to continuing our mission to ensure that everyone in central Virginia has access to the fast, reliable internet they deserve."
