FREE National Night Out Aug. 6, at Courthouse Square and CHILD ID Kits

8/1/2024

The Town of Louisa Police Department will be hosting a National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 6, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at 100 West Main Street, the Louisa County Circuit Court grounds. All residents of Louisa County are encouraged to attend.

Chief Craig Buckley announced that 500 inkless child id kits are being made available free to parents through a collaborative effort to protect our Louisa children with National Night Out, the National Child ID Program, and grant support from AT&T and Johnson & Johnson.

Each kit includes an inkless fingerprinting kit, a DNA sample collection, physical identification information, location for medical records, a place for a recent photo, along with both visual and written instructions.

Louisa Police Department will be distributing these free inkless child identification kits to parents during various public events including our Town’s annual National Night Out.

On average, 1,000 children go missing in the United States every day. When a child goes missing, time is of the essence and these ID kits allow parents and caregivers to provide up to 90% of information needed by law enforcement to begin looking for the child.

“We urge all Louisa parents to attend National Night Out with their children and pick up a free inkless child ID kit from the National Child ID Program. It is a family-maintained kit that acts like life insurance. You pray you never need to use it. However, should your child go missing, the information in these kits saves us time and has helped expedite efforts to find missing children. The stress and anxiety felt by parents and caregivers when a child goes missing can be crippling. These ID kits can help give our police officers clarity in an otherwise chaotic situation,” said Chief Buckley.

This is the Town of Louisa’s third annual National Night Out event. This year’s national sponsor for our event is Nintendo of America and we will have Nintendo representatives in attendance, staffing a corporate booth. In addition, we will have several area public safety organizations, county resource groups, and local non-profits available to speak with our community members.
