Through The Power of Change, REC member-owners give voluntarily to support nonprofits that support those in need. In 2025, The Power of Change awarded more than $237,000 to 71 nonprofits in 22 Virginia counties. That's a significant impact! The Power of Change grants are awarded to 501(c)3 organizations serving members within the REC Service Territory. Applications for funding are only accepted online twice a year between the periods of December to February 10 and June to August 10. The deadline for the current round of The Power of Change applications is February 10. If your nonprofit organization needs funding to support a project or initiative, please consider applying. If you know a nonprofit in need of funding, please share this opportunity with them. Only one application can be made within 12 months. Funding for each round is determined by the CARE Charity Board and selected recipients are awarded in April and October. Previous recipients must wait a period of two years before applying again.
