Imagination Library in Louisa
Louisa, VA (10/16/2023) -- The local boosters for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) in Louisa recently met to announce the new program is now active and has begun signing kids up to receive their free books. All kids under age five in Louisa County will be eligible to receive a book each month mailed directly to their home at no cost to their family. Since DPIL started in 1995, more than 219 million books have been gifted to kids. More than 50,000 kids are currently enrolled in Virginia, with 24 enrolled in Louisa in less than one week.
Lynda Harrill, Statewide DPIL Advocate, says, “There are about 2,000 kids in Louisa who will benefit from this awesome program. The Louisa DPIL affiliate has met their first goal of $16,000 in funding to cover the first three years of estimated costs. Now they can focus on the FUN of promoting the program and early childhood literacy.”
Maggie Morris, DPIL Louisa Chair, adds, “It is so important that children are exposed to books before they attend school. These books are free to each child receiving a book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and mailed directly to their home! Pat Hanley of the Louisa Rotary Club and I have been leading the charge to get this program going for our Louisa County children.”
“Our kickoff event will be held at the Louisa County Public Library on Davis Highway in Mineral on November 4th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. All community members are invited to celebrate with us. We will have computers ready to sign your child up and, of course, donations to support the program are always welcome.” To sign your child up to receive books now, please visit www.imaginationlibrary.com, then select “Check Availability” and follow the instructions that will take you to our “donate” and “signup” page.”
