
Local Students Among REC Scholarship Winners
Fredericksburg, Va. — Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) has awarded a total of $20,000 in scholarships to 17 students through its annual Community Scholarship program—including several outstanding students from our area.
The Community Scholarship program is part of REC’s continued commitment to supporting education and strengthening the communities it serves. Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors and current college or technical school students who demonstrate academic achievement, community involvement, and a clear vision for their future.
“This scholarship program is one way REC helps open doors for the next generation,” said Casey Hollins, Managing Director – Communications and Public Relations. “By supporting students on their journey toward higher education or workforce training, we’re investing in the future of our communities and in the young leaders who will help shape it.”
Local recipients of a $1,000 scholarship include:
Shamari Garnett, Essex County – Virginia Commonwealth University
Haley Gordon, Hanover County – Patrick Henry High School
Hailee Strom Mickle, Caroline County – Virginia Commonwealth University
Brandon Wallace, Louisa County – Louisa County High School
Victoria Whitt, King William County – King William High County High School
Eden Wright, Spotsylvania – Liberty University

Applications for the 2026 REC Community Scholarship will open Sept. 1, 2025. Eligible applicants must plan to attend an accredited college, university or technical/trade school and have a parent or guardian who is a member of REC.
