Louisa Community to Unveil America 250 Mural Created by Hundreds of Local Students and Residents

LOUISA, VA – Hundreds of individual works of art are coming together to tell one community's story as Louisa County prepares to unveil the Love Our Community Mural on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 310 W. Main Street in the Town of Louisa.
The public is invited to attend the Love Our Community Mural Reveal & Celebration from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a brief ceremony and official unveiling beginning at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to everyone, including the students, families, businesses, organizations and residents who contributed to the project.
Created in recognition of America's 250th anniversary, the approximately 8-by-12-foot mosaic features hundreds of individually painted tiles that come together to form a unified design featuring hands and hearts. More than 450 Louisa County Public Schools students participated through their art classes, joined by residents, businesses, community organizations and volunteers from throughout the county.
Led by the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce and Louisa Forward Foundation, the project was made possible through a $10,000 grant from Amazon, along with the time, resources and expertise of several community partners.
"Amazon is proud to support projects that bring people together and create a lasting impact in the communities where our employees live and work," said Lisa Schooley, Regional Community Engagement Manager for Amazon. "The Love Our Community Mural has given students, families and volunteers an opportunity to contribute to something meaningful, and we're grateful that our team could support the project through both funding and hands-on volunteer participation."
Amazon employees participated in painting and assembly activities, helping move the project from individual contributions toward a complete community landmark.
Clark Technologies also played an important role, contributing time, resources and expertise to support the mural's assembly and installation. Students in the Louisa County Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) program participated in bringing the individual tiles together, building on the work of students throughout the school division.
The mural's permanent home at 310 W. Main Street, home to the Performing Arts 2000, was made possible through the generosity of The Pivotal Insurance, which provided the building for the installation.
"Main Street is a place where our community's history and future come together," said Town of Louisa Mayor Ashley Michael. "Having a permanent piece of public art created by our own students, families and businesses is a meaningful way to commemorate America's 250th anniversary. We're pleased to welcome this mural to the Town of Louisa and to have it become part of the experience for residents and visitors for years to come."
The October 21 celebration also coincides with Support Your Local Chamber Day and takes place during LCPS Kindness Month, reflecting the project's connections to community partnership, student engagement and civic pride.
"This project reflects the very best of what happens when our businesses, schools and community work toward a shared goal," said Tracy Clark, Executive Director of the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce and Louisa Forward Foundation. "We wanted Louisa's recognition of America's 250th to be something our community could actively participate in creating. Every tile represents someone who contributed, and together those individual efforts have become a permanent reminder of the people and partnerships that make Louisa special."
The unveiling ceremony will feature brief remarks from representatives of Amazon, Louisa County Public Schools, the Town of Louisa and Louisa County. Project partners will join together to remove the mural's covering for the official reveal.
Following the unveiling, everyone who painted a tile is invited to gather in front of the completed mural for a special "Created by All of Us" community photograph. Attendees will also have an opportunity to view the mural up close and find their individual contributions.
