Louisa County Officials Break Ground on New CTE Center

LOUISA, VIRGINIA – On May 20, Louisa County Public Schools held a groundbreaking ceremony marking the construction of a new Career & Technical Education (CTE) center with a completion date set for August 2027. The new center, to be located in the Louisa County High School and Middle School complex, will offer courses like welding, firefighting, nursing and cosmetology to high school students during the day as well as to adults in the evening.

The 56,000 square-foot facility will include 13 classrooms/lab spaces and a covered service yard, and will be designed to grow and evolve with the needs of students, community and employers. The CTE course offerings will expand to include nearly all of the CTE curriculums offered in the state of Virginia – making for one of the most robust catalogs in the commonwealth for a small community. New programs planned for the center include marine service tech, HVAC/plumbing, electrical/energy, computer-aided design (CAD), and computer numerical control (CNC).

“This is clearly an investment in educational opportunities for our young people, but this facility will also be the future home to tremendous career training opportunities for adult learners,” said Chairman of the Louisa County Board of Supervisors Duane Adams. “We applaud the thoughtful modular design of the classrooms as they will allow for technology upgrades to provide up-to-date training as our world evolves.”

“Trades, like the ones that will be learned at the CTE center in Louisa County, are of growing importance,” said Louisa County Jackson District Supervisor Toni Williams. “The CTE program provides good career paths for those not planning to attend college and also gives additional opportunities and experience to the students that will attend college.”

The state-of-the-art facility was designed by RRMM Architects, with insight from Louisa County Public Schools administrators, teachers, community and business partners, and county leadership. The design also includes a multi-purpose conference center and a secured bridge to allow students to safely travel between the CTE center and the high school. The facility will be constructed by Nielsen Builders, Inc.
