LOUISA COUNTY RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED BUDGET PRESENTATION AWARD

6/11/2021

LOUISA, VIRGINIA – The County of Louisa is pleased to announce that it is a recipient of the Government

Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for their Fiscal Year

2021 budget.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association serving the needs of nearly 19,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other financial practitioners. It provides top quality publications, training programs, services, and products designed to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government finance policy management. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.

The award represents a significant achievement by the entity. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:

 a policy document

 a financial plan

 an operations guide

 a communications device

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

“The annual budget process is a true collaborative effort that thrives on valuable input from staff and strategic direction and support from the Board,” said Finance Director, Wanda Colvin. “To receive this award is a testament to the dedication and pride of our staff, who helped make this achievement possible.”

Along with the award, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is presented to the individual or department primarily responsible for having achieved the award. The certificate’s recipient is Ms. Wanda Colvin, Director of Finance.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Robert Babyok, Jr., stated, “The Finance Department is commended for their quality of budgeting and providing an excellent example for other governments throughout the region.” I am proud of our financial team and commend them on this well-deserved recognition.”
