Louisa Residents to Build Community Mural Tile by Tile for America’s 250th

LOUISA, VA — April 28, 2026— Hundreds of Louisa County residents, led by students across Louisa County Public Schools, will come together this year to create a permanent community mural commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The Louisa Love Our Community Mosaic is led by the Louisa Forward Foundation in partnership with the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce and is made possible through a $10,000 grant from Amazon. The project invites up to 600 participants to each paint an individual tile, which will be assembled into a unified 8’ x 12’ mosaic installed at a prominent gateway to Historic Main Street.

"At Amazon, we believe in investing in the communities where we live and work, and Louisa County is a community we're proud to call home,” said Lisa Schooley, community engagement manager, Amazon. “The Louisa Love Our Community Mosaic is a beautiful example of what happens when neighbors come together around a shared vision, and we're honored to support a project that will stand as a lasting symbol of this community's creativity and connection."

The project will begin in classrooms this spring, where students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels will participate in guided tile-painting sessions before the end of the academic year. Additional opportunities for community participation will take place during the Town of Louisa’s July 4th Celebration, allowing residents across the county to contribute to the mural.

“Engaging our students in a project of this scale creates a meaningful connection between creativity, community, and civic pride,” said Doug Straley, Superintendent of Louisa County Public Schools. “This is an opportunity for students to contribute to something lasting and visible in their own community.”

The completed mural will be installed in October during #TeamLCPS Kindness Month, marking the culmination of a countywide effort that spans classrooms, community events, and local partnerships.

“The Louisa Love Our Community Mosaic represents what is possible when leadership, partnership, and community alignment come together,” said Tracy Hale Clark, Executive Director of the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce. “Every tile reflects a member of this community, and together they create a lasting expression of Louisa during a historic moment in our nation’s story.”

The initiative supports Louisa’s broader Main Street revitalization efforts and creates a visible, community-built landmark that reflects local identity, pride, and participation.
