Medicare Open Enrollment Ends December 7 — JABA Offers Free, Unbiased Counseling but Time is Running Out

Charlottesville, VA - Medicare Open Enrollment runs until December 7th and the Jefferson Area Board on Aging (JABA) is encouraging all Medicare beneficiaries to schedule an unbiased, free appointment with their Insurance Counseling Program to fully understand Medicare options. After Open Enrollment ends, beneficiaries will not be able to change their Part D Plan until the following year’s Open Enrollment period.

So far, the Insurance Counseling Program has helped 2,889 individuals choose a prescription plan that best covers their medications, saving them a total of $4,401,799. Anyone receiving Medicare should take advantage of the free appointments available until the end of business on December 5th

Every Medicare plan (Part D prescription drug plan or Medicare Advantage plan) changes every year. Premiums, deductibles, drug coverage, and provider networks may all be updated. With these changes, it’s critical to review plans and determine the best for each individual's needs.

JABA encourages beneficiaries to get facts about their coverage options and avoid potential sales pitches. JABA’s program is part of the federally funded State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) and state Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP). JABA provides free, confidential, and unbiased help from trained volunteers who are certified Medicare Counselors.

Those interested can request a free appointment with a trained Medicare Counselor from JABA’s Insurance Counseling Program 434-817-5248 (request a paper Intake Form) or Insurance Counseling — JABA (online Intake Form).
