Mike Kavros Named 2025 Businessperson of the Year at Louisa Chamber’s Annual Celebration

Louisa, VA — The Louisa County Chamber of Commerce hosted its premier annual event, the 2025 Businessperson of the Year & Annual Meeting, on Wednesday, June 25 at Spring Creek Golf Club. Presented by United Bank, the celebration welcomed over 180 attendees including business leaders, elected officials, and community partners to honor outstanding contributions to Louisa County’s economy and community.

The pinnacle of the evening was the presentation of the 2025 Businessperson of the Year award to Mike Kavros, owner of Callie Opie’s Orchard in Lake Anna. Now in its 40th year, this award honors business leaders who demonstrate innovation, integrity, and community impact.

“This recognition is not just for me—it’s for our entire team, our loyal customers, and the community that supports us every step of the way,” said Mike Kavros. “Callie Opie’s is more than a business. It’s a place where people connect, celebrate, and grow together. I’m truly honored.”

The Chamber also recognized 2025 finalists Lloyd Runnett, Julie Smith, and Laura Watts, each of whom was featured in an inspiring video tribute produced by Jacob Capozella with Louisa County Public Schools, that highlighted their entrepreneurial journeys and local influence.

Additional awards presented included:

  • Chamber Partner of the Year: Rappahannock Electric Cooperative
  • Volunteer of the Year: Julie Manzari
  • Good Neighbor Award: Louisa County Public Schools

The Chamber formally recognized retiring board members John Pope, Ron Bricker, and Valerie Washington for their years of dedicated service. Incoming board members and new leadership were also welcomed, including Melanie Baker, who assumed the role of Board Chair from outgoing Chair Casey Hollins.

Executive Director Tracy Hale Clark delivered the annual report, showcasing a year of strategic growth, impactful partnerships, and expanded programming through both the Chamber and its 501(c)(3) partner, the Louisa Forward Foundation. Highlights included the expansion of the Leadership Louisa program, the launch of a regional Business Forum on workforce development, the National Civics Bee®, and continued progress with the Town’s Main Street initiative.

The Louisa County Impact Awards, hosted by the Louisa Forward Foundation, were also spotlighted with a call for 2025 nominations now open. The awards honor nonprofit excellence, impactful programs, and community partnerships.

The Chamber extends sincere appreciation United Bank, title sponsor, and all sponsors who made the event possible, including:
