PVCC Joins National Effort to Fight Food Insecurity on Community College Campuses
Charlottesville, Va. – November 12, 2025 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is joining schools across the nation in the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Food Access Champions initiative for “GivingTuesday.” The AACC initiative is to fight food insecurity on community college campuses.
PVCC invites the community to help students by contributing in support of its on-campus Panther Pantry. Today through December 2, which is GivingTuesday, the College aims to reach a goal of 200 individuals each giving $25 to raise a total of $5,000 for the Pantry. Donations can be made at https://www.spotfund.com/story/6ef56f79-1fb4-44ba-9ab9-7fd5cfe180d4.
PVCC created the Panther Pantry in 2019 to meet the immediate food and basic needs of students by providing a variety of non-perishable food items and general necessities on campus. Services also include nutrition education and resource support. Since inception, the College has served over 9,211 students, provided more than 350 households with 79,853 pounds of food, fresh produce and supplies, and partnered with multiple campus and community organizations to raise awareness and support for the Pantry. “Time and again, our amazing community has shown that when we come together, we can achieve extraordinary things,” shared PVCC Vice President for Advancement and External Affairs Harry Stillerman. “Each contributor’s generosity will help us keep the Pantry stocked and make a lasting difference in the lives of our students.”
Every gift fuels real progress for students:
- $25: Provides 75 students with a ready-to-eat meal.
- $50: Covers one “Box for Break” – a bag of food, fresh produce, and hygiene items for the winter break.
- $75: Provides hygiene items for 60 students.
- $100: Helps supply students with fresh produce.
Each dollar donated helps provide at least three meals.
