Communications & PR Team Receives Seven Awards from Two National Organizations

 

Fredericksburg, Va. – Each year, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative’s (REC) Communications and Public Relations department diligently works to communicate effectively with the Cooperative’s member-owners – and those efforts have not gone unnoticed. REC’s communications team received four awards from the Cooperative Communicators Association’s (CCA) 2021 Awards Contest and three awards from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Spotlight on Excellence Awards.

REC won the following four awards from the CCA’s 2021 Awards Contest:

  • Second Place in Advertisement for the “Be Smart Get Alerts” ad.
  • Third Place in News Release for “REC, EPRI Partner on Research to Improve Reliability.”
  • Honorable Mention in Personality Profile Featurette for “CEO Announces Retirement.”
  • Honorable Mention in Annual Reports for the 2019 Annual Report, “We Are REC.”

In addition, REC won the following three awards from the NRECA’s Spotlight on Excellence Awards:

  • Silver in 2021 Best Internal News Publications for PowerLines. 
  • Silver in 2021 Best Individual Ad for the “We’re All in This Together” ad.
  • Gold in 2020 Best Internal News Publication for PowerLines. 

“REC’s communications and public relations team is dedicated to keeping members informed and engaged year-round with all that is going on at the Cooperative,” said Casey Hollins, managing director of communications and public relations. “Over the years, member feedback continues to show that REC’s members not only recognize, but appreciate, our communication efforts.”

The CCA is an organization of 300 professionals who communicate for cooperatives. The organization is unique in both its mission and membership as it works toward helping members excel in communications. CCA emphasizes ideas and strategies aimed at making communications more successful for cooperatives.

NRECA represents more than 900 consumer-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperatives, public power districts, and public utility districts in the United States. The Spotlight on Excellence Awards recognizes a body of outstanding work produced by electric cooperative communication and marketing professionals across the country.


REC provides electric service to over 170,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., the Cooperative operates and maintains more than 17,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
