United Way’s Day of Caring Connects Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital with JABA Older Adults

Charlottesville, VA - The Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) is hosting a Fall Ball for its older adult Community Center members during United Way’s Day of Caring Event on September 17th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. During Day of Caring, organizations across Central Virginia volunteer their time to support vulnerable populations and local nonprofits. For the second year in a row, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital will be volunteering at JABA’s Fall Ball, which will be hosted at The Center at Belvedere.

Sentara volunteers, including the President of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, Elwood Bernard "Bernie" Boone III, will connect with older adults, serve lunch, and – of course – dance. This is an important opportunity for those working in the healthcare field to connect on a more personal level with the populations they serve.

Earlier this year, Sentara Cares awarded JABA’s nutrition programs a grant to support meal programs and health education for Community Center members and home-bound individuals. Due to increasing food costs and a rapidly aging population, the need for home-delivered meals and meals provided through centers is only growing, making funding from Sentara even more valuable. Now, members of the Sentara team can see firsthand the impact of the funding.

JABA’s annual Fall Ball is a time for community partnership, connection, friendship, and joy. This year, the event is a special celebration of JABA’s 50th Anniversary, serving Central Virginia’s adults 60+, adults with disabilities, and caregivers. As we reflect on the past 50 years, JABA is looking to the future, evolving programs and funding streams to meet the growing needs.
